Potential new exhaust for 2009

Many say that they are tired of the raspy sound of the naturally aspirated Honda Indy V8 motors. Well, changes seem like they are in sight. Honda Performance Development along with the Indy Racing League started testing of a new exhaust system at Sebring International Raceway last week. The new header and muffler design changes the tone of the exhaust and quiets it down some. If the off season testing goes well, we should see and hear the new systems on the Honda Indy V8′s at the season opener Sunday April 5th on the Streets of St. Petersburg.

Interesting, Do you know who tested this car?

I am not certain on who was testing. To my understanding this test was a quiet one. The Indy Racing League usually announces any testing and they did not announce this one nor did Honda Performance Development.

Was it built just to quiet the engine noise or are their performance additions as well?

I’m really not in favor of changing the exhaust systems just to alter the noise level… Ok, I can maybe understand it for the street races, but part of racing has always been the unmuffled sound of the engines (I have the hearing loss to prove it…but it can easily be prevented with earplugs).
I like my racing loud…if you don’t go home with a headache, you done got ripped off…of course I may be old fashioned that way…
