Marco…… Polo…..

September 07, 2008 By: Brendon Category: IndyCar Series Drivers, IndyCar Series Teams

Where is Marco Andretti?  Lately he has not been mentioned during the race broadcast.  One would think with George Lucas jumping on board at Sonoma and Andretti Green Racing placing the Star Wars Clone Wars scheme on the #26 Dallara that their would have been more television coverage of the car.  Ever since all the altercations that happened amongst the Andretti Green team mates over the past few races.  It would seem that the AGR media spark has come down a notch.  Granted, all the media attention lately has been focused on Helio Castroneves and Scott Dixon and their recent battle for the 2008 IndyCar Series championship.  Tony Kanaan brought AGR back in the media spotlight momentarily when it was announced that he signed a five year contract extension with them.  Hideki Mutoh also clinched the Rookie of the Year I have no doubts that this championship team can regroup during the off season and come out swinging at the season opener April 5, 2009 on the streets of St. Petersburg.

Congratulations to Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves

IRLblog.com would like to congratulate Scott Dixon for his 2008 IndyCar Series Championship win. Equally impressive were the last to first heroics of Helio Castroneves’ victory at Chicagoland Speedway.

How to make an easy $50,000…

from indycar.com

A lot remains at stake for most of the drivers entered in the PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300.

Only 17 points separate Tony Kanaan and Dan Wheldon for third and fourth in the standings. The higher finisher will earn an extra $50,000 in TEAM (Team Enhancement and Allocation Matrix) bonus money.

Well, easy is a relative term.  If you’re TK or Dan Wheldon your only job is to best the other man at Chicagoland Speedway on September 7th in order to win an additional $50,000 in bonus money.  With the championship all but set between Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves, there’s still a fair bit of bragging rights, and cash, to go around before we close the record books for this round.  Like Brendon alluded to in this post, look for the PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300 to feature two main duels being fought out in what we hope will be an exciting, technical race.

Too Close to Call

Once again the finale at Chicagoland Speedway will be where the IndyCar Series championship will be decided. Only 30 points separate 1st place Scott Dixon from 2nd place Helio Castroneves. In order for Helio to win he would have to place first with Scott Dixon placing no better than 10th. If Helio does win and gets three extra points for most laps led Then Dixon would have to finish no better than 9th in order for Helio win the championship. The race this Sunday has the potential to be a very interesting one. Scott has won at Homestead, Texas, Nashville, Edmonton, Kentucky and won the 92nd running of the Indy 500. I do think that it is possible for Helio to win. It is however, a long shot. Scott Dixon performs well on the 1.5 mile ovals and I am sure that he will run a smart conservative race with his mind on the championship instead of pushing hard and potentially getting in trouble trying to get the win.
