Versus continues pre-season promotions
Versus network continues to promote the IndyCar Series prior to the opening race on the Streets of St Petersburg scheduled for April 5, 2009. At first I was a bit skeptical about the IndyCar Series moving to Vs. I must admit, they have definitely caught my attention with all the promotions and effort that they have put in prior to the start of the season. Versus has already surpassed ESPN in my book in coverage. Funny thing is they haven’t even covered anything yet. However, they are going to have a special this Saturday on driver Danica Patrick that is scheduled to air from 2-3 p.m. The promo video above will debut this during this hour long special. Below is a schedule of IndyCar programs that are going to run every Saturday during the month of March. These should tie us over and get us worked up for the opener April 5th.

While I like the promos and shows VS has to offer, im not sure they can be considered better than ESPN yet. While VS seems to be dedicated to Indy Cars with the pre-race shows, historical shows and Indy Lights, the race coverage to me is what matters most. Theres alot that can go wrong on race coverage from the announcers to the cameramen to the way the network is covering the races. I think the jury is still out until we actually see race coverage. If the coverage was anything like CART’s was after the 2002 season, then it will turn people away from the already hard to find network

I agree. Race coverage is the most important thing. This network is definitely headed in the right direction SO FAR. I honestly think they will surprise a lot of people this season. ESPN 2 tried IndyCar programming a few seasons ago by following selected drivers around during their everyday routine. The show was poorly shot and edited which made the show rather boring. Therefore, it did not catch on. We will see how it plays out in about a month.
